As a 3D Printing enthusiast I strive for perfection in my prints. To achieve this I need the best possible filaments at a reasonable price tag. This list contains my top 5 filaments that I have used over the years.
1. Prusament PLA by Prusa Research
While it may not be the fastest filament, it is ideal for achieving high-quality results. One of its standout features is the detailed graph provided with every spool, giving buyers full transparency on tolerance data and ensuring consistent, reliable prints.

2. ERYONE PLA 3D Printer Filament
Eryone's PLA produces reliable results and excels in most aspects for its price range. Its main drawbacks in our experience is that it commonly arrives moist and prices vary drastically. Overall it is a great choice.
3. Polymaker PolyTerra PLA Filament
Polymaker is known for their quality controlled filament production and high prices. The PolyTerra PLA fits that description. Its main pros include that it is advertised as environmentally friendly.
4. E-Sun PLA
E-Sun PLA is a solid choice for printing on a tight budget. While it is cheap that does come with drawbacks such as a less consistent diameter than competition. If properly dialed it it can produce excellent surface finishes and is a great choice for multi-colour printing.
5. Sunlu PLA
Sunlu PLA is ridiculously affordable. Their filament is usually the cheapest on this list. Their new spools are perfect for AMS printing and it is overall a great filament. A major flaw is that the filaments often arrive already moist, which means that it is impossible to jump straight into printing as you will need a filament dryer first.
Our Filaments...
Obviously I can not include our filaments in the results, but given the opportunity I believe it would definitely be first. When it comes to dependable performance, HiFilament is my top choice. Their fast PLA is known for excellent adhesion and smooth flow, making it easy to work with. A key selling point is that unlike the other filaments on this list it comes in larger spools of 1.25 KG instead of 1 KG. This change allows it to reliably finish prints, while still fitting most common printers including AMS style machines.
Looking Ahead
As we enter 2025, the 3D printing landscape continues to evolve. These fast PLA 3D printer filaments are on my radar for future projects. Whether you are a seasoned expert or just starting out, these materials promise to enhance your 3D printing experience. So keep experimenting. Remember, the right filament can help turn your ideas into tangible creations faster than you think! Happy printing!
